How do I get to Livigno?
There are several options, depending on whether you come from the north or the south.
Is it possible to get to Livigno by public transport?
Yes: all year round by train and bus (see page 24). During winter time you can take a shuttle bus directly from Milan airports: www.mtbus.it
How can a I reach Livigno by public transport from Switzerland?
You can easily get to Livigno using the train until Zernez (or Pontresina in the summer) and then by Silvestri bus and/or Postauto bus.
Are Swiss travelcards (GA - General Abonnement, Half-Fare travelcard) valid to get to Livigno by public means?
Yes, on Silvestri bus as well.
TRAVELLING
What kind of ID do I need in order to get to Switzerland? What if my child has no ID?
Switzerland is part of the Schengen area. Nevertheless everybody, children included, needs to have an ID with them.
Do I need some special authorization if I want to drive on Swiss, Austrian or German roads?
No, except for a valid ID. For motorways in Switzerland and Austria you need to buy a sticker, called vignette, which is sold at the custom offi ces or at the gas stations. For Austria there are two types of vignette: for 10-days (cost: euro 7,90) or for 2-months (euro 22,90), whereas the only one on sale for Switzerland is for the ongoing year (CHF 40,00). All prices are valid for 2010.
Do I need to buy a ticket for the city buses?
No, this service is free all year round.
Where do coaches for Bormio, Zernez or Pontresina leave from?
They leave from the little square in front of Scuola Sci Fondo, in via Isola.
Where can I buy the tickets for the coaches to Bormio, Zernez or Pontresina?
Directly from the coach driver.
Which documents do I need in order to bring my dog to Switzerland?
You need a pet ID / pet passport which states anti rabies vaccination. Please note road regulations must be respected when pets are transported.

What can I do in Livigno? And if I don't ski?
During wintertime there are many things to do in Livigno, and many have nothing to do with skiing.

Is the lift pass valid on all lifts in Livigno?

I would like to learn how to ski, what can I do?

I would like to ski, but I have no gear. What can I do?
There are plenty of authorized rental shops.
Do I need to pay for the cross-country skiing trails?
No, these trails are free to use.
SUMMER
What can I do in Livigno during summertime?
In Livigno there are plenty of summer activities.

I would like to go fishing. What can I do?
You can get a tourist permit through Livigno tourist offices. Moreover you need a Italian state licence or a temporary licence (the so-called "licenzino") issued by Livigno Tourist Offices.

Where can I buy the tickets for gondolas?
Directly at the gondola you would like to use.
I'd like to make a daytrip. What can you recommend?

LODGING
I have booked a hotel /an apartment in the pedestrian area (ZTL). What can I do?
You can freely enter the Restricted Traffic Area with your car on your first day, when you arrive and on your last day, when you leave. Otherwise, you need to ask for a special pass to your hotel/apartment proprietor. These conditions are subject to change during winter season: for further information you can contact Livigno tourist offices.
Where can I park my caravan during the day? And in the night?
During the day caravans can be parked on any public parking, unless otherwise stated. During the night caravans must be parked in the authorized parking areas.
I am looking for accommodation for a few days at New Year, Carnival or in mid August, but I can't find anything. Why?
Try and look for accommodation for a whole week, or get in touch with Livigno tourist offices just before leaving for Livigno.
I cannot find accommodation from Friday to Monday, even on low season. Why?
Normally accommodation is rented on a weekly basis, Saturday to Saturday. However you can try to contact Livigno tourist offices.

When did Livigno become duty-free?
First traces date back to 17th Century.
What happens if I buy for more than the duty free allowances?

Where are Livigno Tourist Offices?
There are two offices. One is inside the Plaza Placheda Congress Centre, whereas the other is in the centre of Livigno, open in high season only. For further information.
Where can I file a police report for loss or theft? Do I need an interpreter?
For police reports, please refer to the Carabinieri. You need an interpreter if you don't speak or understand Italian. See list of interpreters.
Does the Red Bernina Train reach Livigno?
No, the nearest train stations for this line are Sankt Moriz and Tirano (or Ospizio Bernina in the summer).
