Duty Free

The duty free area of Livigno

History
In the 1600's, the "Grigioni", the rulers of the valley, established completed economic and legal independence for Livigno.
Later on, given its geographical position, Livigno was given custom benefits by Napoleon in 1805, confirmed again by the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1818, by Italy in 1910 and by E.E.C. in 1960.

The duty free area of Livigno

Other than for its nature, Livigno is also renowned for its duty free area. This means that you can buy a wide range of products at bargain prices. Fuel for example costs 50% less than in the rest of Italy. Other products are cigarettes and tobacco, alcoholic beverages, perfumes, photo cameras, computer, electronic devices, leather jackets, furs and so on. For some products restrictions apply. (see below in the attached file). For others duty exemption is granted for goods under a fixed value.
If an item exceeds this value, it has to be declared at the customs (Foscagno or at the Swiss border).
