Also, for this edition, as it happened in 1936, the torch was created by the famous steel factories Krupp. On the circled shaped basis of the torch, there is a crown of light rays representing the spirit of the Olympic Games in Munich: light, freshness and generosity. As fuel they used 24% of propane and 76% of butane with a cartridge in aluminum. The Emblem was created by Otl Aicher, designer and director of the Commission of the Virtual Concession. The Games of Munich are sadly remembered for the attack on September 25th in the Olympic Village by the Palestinian group Black September. 11 Israelis, 5 terrorists and a German policeman were killed. Men’s indoor handball made its debut and archery returned to the Olympic program after 52 years of absence. US swimmer Mark Spritz won, for the first time in the history of the Games, 7 gold medals. Competing in dressage, West German Liselott Linsenhoff became the first female equestrian to win a gold medal.
