On Friday, September 5, one of the most spectacular multi-discipline events returns to Livigno: 3.8 kilometers of swimming, 195 kilometers of cycling, and 42.2 kilometers of running along a high-altitude course through breathtaking landscapes. A true test of endurance in a unique setting that combines sporting spirit, top-level hospitality, and an Olympic atmosphere.

Livigno, 01.09.2025 – The Livigno ICON Xtreme Triathlon 2025 is just around the corner. The event, now in its ninth edition in the Little Tibet, is set for Friday, September 5.

Livigno once again confirms itself as a destination naturally suited for endurance sports and as the perfect stage to create a magic that will continue throughout the season, culminating with the Olympic Games in February, when the slopes of Mottolino and Carosello 3000 will host the snowboard and freestyle competitions awarding as many as 26 Olympic titles.

At 5 a.m. on Friday morning, 300 athletes will line up on the shores of Lake Gallo to kick off an event that, with each edition, continues to see a steady growth in participants. Athletes must appear at the start together with their personal support team (consisting of one to a maximum of three people), whose role will be to provide assistance throughout much of the race, working in synergy with the organizers to ensure the highest level of safety.

With its 3.8 km swim, 195 km cycle, and 42.2 km run, the Livigno ICON Xtreme Triathlon has rightfully earned its place among the most prestigious extreme long-distance multi-discipline competitions on the international stage.

Created and developed in collaboration with Livigno, the ICON Xtreme Triathlon offers athletes the chance to compete on courses designed to highlight the unique features and majestic landscapes of this part of the Alps, with sections made iconic over time by renowned cycling races such as the Giro d’Italia. At 1,816 meters above sea level, Livigno combines world-class hospitality with spectacular scenery—qualities at the highest level rarely found in other mountain destinations at this altitude.

The opening leg of the competition will see athletes take on the 3.8 km swim in Lake Gallo, where water temperatures in September have ranged between 13 and 16 degrees Celsius in recent years, making the use of proper equipment essential.

The 195 km cycling segment will lead athletes across the border into Switzerland, on a course featuring over 5,000 meters of total elevation gain. Riders will leave Livigno heading toward the Forcola Pass (2,315 m); from there, they will enter Switzerland to tackle the Bernina Pass (2,323 m) before descending into the Engadin valley. Shortly after, they will climb the Fuorn Pass (2,149 m), from which a long descent into Val Müstair begins, eventually bringing them back into Italy.

At Prato allo Stelvio, athletes will face the most iconic moment of the cycling leg: the epic 48 switchbacks of the Stelvio Pass—the second-highest pass in Europe at 2,757 m. After the descent, one final major climb awaits: the Foscagno Pass (2,291 m), leading to the T2 transition area in Trepalle, Livigno.

The 42.2 km marathon segment will be equally remarkable for both its beauty and the toughness of its course. After the first 8 km along a stunning downhill trail leading athletes back to Livigno, the race continues with 25 km of flat terrain on the Livigno cycling path. At the end of this stretch comes the ultimate challenge: a grueling 5 km climb up to Carosello 3000. With 1,100 meters of elevation gain, this final ascent will see each athlete accompanied by a member of their support team, who will run alongside them all the way to the finish line.

Once again this year, the Livigno ICON Xtreme Triathlon is set to thrill not only the athletes but also the spectators eager to experience the alpine energy of a truly unique destination—where charm and hospitality meet sporting DNA and ancient traditions.

The Organizing Office of the Livigno ICON Xtreme Triathlon will be open at Plaza Placheda from 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3. We look forward to welcoming you.
