Opens the technical ring of the venue: Petter Northug, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, and Emil Iversen among the first on the Olympic snow
Livigno, October 27, 2025 – Once again, Livigno is the first to give a sign of winter, as it does every season. This year too, thanks to the cutting-edge snowfarming technique, snow once again covers the plain of the Valtellina resort as early as the end of October, with the opening of the technical cross-country skiing track scheduled for Monday, October 27. A tradition that has become a symbol of Livigno’s ability to anticipate the seasons, blending innovation, sustainability, and a deep-rooted sporting culture.
A true marvel of science applied to the mountains: the snow collected in March and April is stored throughout the summer on the central plain of the village, protected by layers of wood wool and geotextile sheets that preserve its quality until the cold returns. Thus, when autumn begins to paint the mountains, Livigno is already ready to bring back to enthusiasts and athletes the authentic atmosphere of winter.
Already in these days, some of the brightest stars of world cross-country skiing are in town to take advantage of the ideal conditions offered by the track and to refine their high-altitude training. Among them, the exceptional Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, together with fellow Norwegians Emil Iversen and Petter Northug. Champions who have chosen Livigno for years thanks to its unique combination of altitude training, cutting-edge facilities, and human warmth — elements that make this place a dream destination for international athletes across all endurance sports.
The opening of the technical track once again confirms Livigno as one of Europe’s capitals of cross-country skiing and endurance sports — a true benchmark for competitive training and for anyone wishing to experience snow in its most authentic form. The track will be open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.: mornings are reserved for athletes and teams in training, while in the afternoons it will also be accessible to amateurs and enthusiasts.
A tradition rooted in the past yet looking to the future. Because in Livigno, cross-country skiing is not just a sport — it is a living part of the area’s identity. This spirit is embodied in iconic events such as the BWT 1K Shot, the adrenaline-filled summer race that every August transforms the town center into an urban cross-country track, and La Sgambeda, Livigno’s great classic in December, which this year celebrates its 35th edition — a symbol of continuity and shared passion.
And this year, that first layer of snow is not just the start of a new season — it marks the beginning of the Olympic season, the one that will bring Livigno, host venue for the freestyle and snowboard competitions with 26 Olympic titles to be awarded, into the global spotlight. A bridge of emotions and events that, from this opening, will lead all the way to February 2026, when the lights of the Games will shine on the very mountains that today are once again dressed in white.
Because in Livigno, winter doesn’t begin with the cold — it begins with energy, with the desire to live the snow, to breathe it, to share it. And this year, more than just an opening, this track is a statement of intent: the beginning of a journey leading to the Olympic dream. The symbol of a love that will never end.
