Great participation for the August snow event, which also offered a high technical content. Pellegrino inspires young people with his ‘Yard of Stars
Livigno, 30/08/2024 - It was a highly spectacular two-day event at the end of August in Livigno, with a splendid and well-attended edition of the BWT 1K Shot enriching the programme. The now traditional appointment with the summer snow enlivened the afternoon of Thursday 29, thanks also to the presence of the Italian national cross-country ski team athletes, who ensured a very high level of technical content. One thousand metres to be experienced in the middle of the town and embraced by two wings of the crowd that beat the rhythm of the one-on-one challenges from the start to the finish line, supporting the competing athletes right up to the last metre.
Qualifying round and then knockout challenges, which rewarded Lucia Isonni, winner ahead of Caterina Ganz and Sandra Schutzova, among the women; and Giacomo Ponti among the men. Behind Ponti came, second and third, his fellow-countrymen Nicolò Bianchi and Teo Galli, who made the most of their knowledge of the snow at home and a dazzling form, preceding even Federico Pellegrino, the king of the Italian sprint, who was not at his best due to a small seasonal ailment.
Pellegrino, however, was the protagonist of the entire event, with his great ability to tell his story and to promote cross-country skiing at 360 degrees, inspiring future generations. An aptitude that makes him one of Italy's best-loved athletes, and that was put on display on Wednesday evening, with the exclusive sports talk entitled ‘Un cantiere di Stelle’ (A Building Site of Stars), hosted by Jacopo Pozzi and with the presence of Luca Moretti, president of Livigno Next, who filled the Piazza del Comune, offering a spectacle of participation and sports storytelling.
The closure of the two days was marked by the snowboarding and freestyle show, which created a link with the disciplines that will be seen in Little Tibet during the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, and by the always heartfelt Gara da li Contrada di Livign, the challenge between the different districts of the town, which on the same track of the BWT 1K Shot, but travelled in the opposite direction, brought almost 600 Livignaschi onto the track, representing the importance of traditions and their transmission. Top-level sport, entertainment, culture and tradition: all the ingredients of the history and identity of Little Tibet, enclosed within the magic of the summer snow.
