This torch was designed by Korean designer Young Se Kim. It is exactly 700 mm long, representing the altitude of the city of PyeongChang, which is 700 meters above sea level.

The colours of the livery, white and gold, reflect the main colours of the torch relay while the five-pointed shape of the flame is based on the Korean symbol of PyeongChang, which is also engraved on the top and bottom of the torch. The five-cornered shape represents the spirit of the sport, which unites races, nations, religions, genders, cultures and the five continents of the world united in one passion. The torch was designed so that the flame would continue to burn in all weather conditions and withstand the strong winds and heavy snowfall that can be found in the Republic of Korea.
